Putting a New Spin on Polishing – Thoughts on Preserving Tooth Structure and Reducing Ergonomic Challenges
Program Overview
Polishing has been an integral part of a dental hygiene appointment since the profession first began. Initially polishing meant removing stain with a hand activated tool and homemade polishing paste. Soon heavy, belt driven handpieces and commercially prepared pastes became the standard, and now clinicians can use light weight, ergonomically designed corded and cordless polishers to deliver care.
While stain removal is still the most common goal, polishing protocols have morphed through the years, and now can include applying desensitizing medicaments, and preparing tooth surfaces for other therapies. This course uncovers options to preserve delicate tooth structures, reduce damage to restorative materials, and improve clinician musculoskeletal health. Little changes, big gains - the answers are always found in the details!
