Special Care Patients and Their Oral Health Challenges
Program Overview
This course provides an in‑depth exploration of the oral health needs of special care patients, including individuals with physical, developmental, cognitive, medical, or emotional conditions that require modified dental approaches. Students will examine the biological, behavioral, and social factors that influence dry mouth outcomes in these populations, as well as the barriers that limit access to care. Emphasis is placed on evidence‑based strategies for prevention, communication, treatment planning, and clinical management. Through case‑based learning and practical application, participants will develop the knowledge and confidence needed to deliver compassionate, patient‑centered oral healthcare to diverse and medically complex individuals for their dry mouth conditions.
